ABOUT US

WELCOME TO THAMES

Only 90 minutes from Auckland International Airport and to the cities of Hamilton and Tauranga. Bush, scenic bays, mountains and cycling trails are all in immediate vicinity. Museums, eateries, art and antiques shopping, a coastal walk, all part of Thames.

Thames is your basecamp on the Coromandel Peninsula, the perfect holiday destination for enjoying magnificent scenery, beautiful bush walks, cycling, playing, swimming, great fishing, and simply relaxing.

DICKSON HOLIDAY PARK

Set beside a stream and surrounded by native bush, Dickson Holiday Park offers peace and tranquility. We are only three kilometres from the centre of the town of Thames, and ideally located to explore the scenic wonders of the Coromandel Peninsula.

A RICH HISTORY

Dickson Holiday Park is located in the old Tararu gardens, planted late last century by the settlers looking to beautify this thriving gold town.

It is also the site of the remains of the Brown and Campbell gold processing stamper battery. The Gold is mostly gone, or best left in the ground to preserve the scenic wealth of this beautiful area, but the history remains and is a part of life in the Coromandel.

MEET THE OWNERS

Elena and Matthias are a Spanish-German couple with five grown-up kids. They immigrated to Thames and the Coromandel in 2010. Matthias is a GP (family doctor) by trade.

In 2012, they opened a BnB, and in 2015, they founded JollyBikes, a bicycle shop and tour operator, with a special emphasis on e-bikes.  In July 2022, they acquired Dickson Holiday Park, with a long history and tradition.

They are now passionate about offering this opportunity to relax and revive surrounded by Coromandel nature, an experience that will last. Good For Your Soul.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are dogs allowed?
Dogs are generally welcome, as long as other guests or staff do not feel intimidated or rightfully annoyed by them. However, they need to be on lead all the time (if not retained in a vehicle). They are also not allowed inside our accommodations. In case they (or the owners) do not comply and fit in, they, unfortunately, have to go. Also there is a very busy time of the year, between Christmas and mid January, where we are unable to admit dogs.

Is there public transport to your Holiday Park?
Yes! Check out these links for bus schedules: Intercity bus to Thames, then Thames Connector from Thames to the Holiday Park.

Do you provide longer term or emergency accommodation?
We are a Holiday Park, in principle. Who wants to stay with us longer term will have to go through a process of assessment and trial period, in order to safeguard our little community.

When is the earliest time I can come, or the latest I have to go?
Depends a bit on whether you rent a structure or a site. With structures we have to be stricter, as we need to clean them for the next guest. But we can hold your baggage if you are early or late, for a small fee. With sites only, you can ask individually.

Do kids pay as well?
Kids pay half price, for ages 2 - 15 years old.

Do you provide cots and baby chairs?
Yes, both. It is important to let us know in advance though.

Can we come with a boat and park that on site?
Boat or extra car storage is possible for $10/night.

How fast is your WIFI?
Very fast. 20 Mbps down, 10 Mbps up. And FREE and unlimited.

What is the difference in facilities?
Flats: A/C, dish TV, private bathroom with hot shower, kitchen. Cabins: No A/C, outside bathroom (not private), but dish TV, kitchenette, hot water. Caravans: cold water, power, water heater (jug).
Check out our accommodation options here.

How many people can stay on one site, and in your built spaces?
On one site we allow up to six people. The caravans, cabins and motel units take between three and seven, depending on the layout and size. Two people are always included in the price; whereas additional adults pay between 20 and 30 dollars.

Do you admit groups?
Yes, of course, and we try to provide neighbouring spaces if desired.

Any additional costs, or is everything covered?
Hot showers, laundry and some of the games are coin operated. DVDs are NZD4 per piece and day and require a deposit. Other summer games, balls, rackets, mini golf clubs and so on may require a deposit, but are free. Bedding and linen are free. Pool use is free as well.
